So they're firing people to pay for AI, cool

Meta just announced another 8,000 layoffs – that's 10% of their workforce, gone in May. And they're freezing 6,000 open positions too. The official reason is to offset all that money they're throwing at AI. Stock dropped 2% on the news.

Zuckerberg keeps saying 2026 is the year AI changes how we work, and I guess this is what he meant. Projects that used to need big teams now getting done by one person with an AI assistant, supposedly. I get the efficiency argument, but watching them cut this deep while spending billions on data centers just feels off. Another round of layoffs this big makes you wonder when the cuts stop and the actual growth starts.
