I get that the dividend is the primary reason why people decide to buy DVN. I also own a mostly dividend based portfolio but I also don't want the stocks that I own to have a high potential of losing value in a short amount of time. In my opinion DVN is exactly a stock where the cons outweigh the pros.
My logic is simple. DVN never went over $50 per share in the last 5 years (which is maybe expected) but it had more than a few periods where the stock plummeted going even as low as $6 at one time. Also when we count in that some uncertain times are ahead of us for the entire O&G industry I think the best thing to do is to stay away
